Day 15 Saturday, December 27, 1997Pacific Ocean (Ensenada) - San Diego
Tired and worn out after a rough night, we arrive back to the US of A at San Diego in the early afternoon. We're lucky and go through another very friendly & painless customs and immigrations check at the Shelter Island Police Dock. Afterwards, Andy and Deborah make a beeline for the payphone to make arrangements for return flights. I'm having the same thoughts, but decide to stay for a couple more days to at least see San Diego first, and maybe Catalina Island too. In the evening, Ray cooks a curry and we have our last meal together, all five of us. Afterwards, Deb and Andy take a cab to the airport and Wellington goes out prancing around to Ashikin's great worry. The rest of us watch Buckaroo Banzai onboard and conk out at the tender hour of 9 p.m. My fingers have now developed huge, thick blisters, but otherwise feel fine. I switch from Second Skin (that has made them very white and wrinkled due to its high water content) to a dry, sterile compress tied up with gauze. |
